The Sports Coach apprenticeship is an industry standard apprenticeship for people who work in high-performance, community and school environments.

What we offer

Paid employment while you learn on the job! We provide a dedicated learning coach to support you through the qualification and help you put your learning into practice at work. This learning coach will deliver a weekly group education session for all Coach Core apprentices, allowing you to learn and share ideas from a range of different coaching environments.

Course content and expectations

KNOWLEDGE

  • Coaching philosophies and professional practice
  • Transformational coaching methods and strategic planning techniques
  • Positive learning environment attributes and behaviour management strategies
  • Methods to measure the impact of coaching strategies through analysis of key indicators
  • Session planning techniques that consider a child’s unique profile and development needs

SKILLS

  • Plan safe, inclusive and effective sessions that consider participants’ development needs
  • Proactively respond to national trends in education standards and strategies
  • Prepare for sessions by organising resource and ensuring safe operating procedures
  • Evaluate sessions to monitor engagement, enrichment and personal development
  • Enhance coaching competencies and inter intra-personal skills through CPD
  • Comply with legal, ethical, effective and efficient coaching systems

Level 2 Sports Coach

Lead fun, inclusive and engaging activities that help people of all ages to change their behaviour and adopt and maintain a physically active lifestyle.

Full time apprentices will typically spend 12 – 15 months on-programme working towards the occupational standard, with a minimum of 6 hours training on the job. The training will be delivered by specialists and apprentices will gain on-the-job experience with the employing organisation.

Level 4 Sports Coach

This programme is designed with a set of core duties that all sports coaching apprentices must achieve, as well as three sets of optional duties, of which they must choose one set that most suits their coaching environment (their pathway), from:

  • School Coach Duties
  • Community Coach Duties
  • High Performance Coach Duties

 

Full time apprentices will typically spend 18 months on-programme working towards the occupational standard, with a minimum of 6 hours training on the job. The training will be delivered by specialists and apprentices will gain on-the-job experience with the employing organisation.
